There's many ways you can contribute to improve Indigenous health. Here's some suggestions:
Add a hand to the online Sea of Hands |
Add your voice to the growing number of Australians calling for Indigenous health equality by adding a hand to the online Sea of Hands. The Sea of Hands is ANTaR's primary public education initiative and Australia's largest public art installation. |
Sign the Close the Gap pledge |
Indigenous Australians die 17 years earlier than non-Indigenous Australians and Indigenous infant mortality is three times that of non-Indigenous Australians. Sign the Close the Gap pledge.
You can also download the pledge (PDF 79k) and get your friends to sign it too. |
Stay up-to-date with ANTaR's campaigns by subscribing to our email newsletter. If you know what's going on, you'll feel more confident speaking to others about Indigenous issues. |
Make a donation to ANTaR to help us continue this work. |
Encourage your organisation |
Encourage your workplace, church, school, university, or other community organisation to take up the issue and develop initiatives in support of the campaign.
Your organisation can sign up to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, Tom Calma's Open Letter by sending your signatures and logo to sjreport [at] humanrights.gov.au.
You could also encourage your organisation to develop a Reconciliation Australia Action Plan. |
Sign the Indigenous Health Rights Statement |
- Sign the Indigenous Health Rights Statement online. Then distribute the statement to your friends and networks. The letter is also available in other languages:
- You can also send the Statement to the Prime Minister in the post, asking for his urgent commitment. His postal address is: The Hon John Howard MP, Prime Minister, Parliament House, CANBERRA ACT 2600.
- Translate the Indigenous Health Rights Statement into Indigenous and International languages - please contact us if you are able to help.
Sign the GetUp! petition for Indigenous health equality.
Write to politicians and newspapers |
- Contact your state and federal politicians and urge them to make Indigenous health a priority. A comprehensive National Strategic Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health was endorsed by all Australian Governments in July 2003. These Governments need to be urged to implement their strategy.
- Write to state and federal politicians - your local members, health ministers and shadow ministers, the prime minister, your state premier, plus state and federal opposition leaders.
- Write to newspapers: the major daily and weekly papers plus your local papers.
