Speak up about governments

Ideas on how you can speak up against racism in governmental policies and actions

Speaking up can also involve being aware of government policies and actions.

For example, did you know that the Racial Discrimination Act has been suspended to allow the Northern Territory Intervention to take place? Read more about this issue in the HREOC Social Justice Report 2007.

  1. Make your representatives aware of your concerns. Don't forget to contact both your State/Territory and Federal parliamentarians. Write to them. A fantastic letter writing guide is available on the Amnesty International Australia website. Also, ANTaR has developed a 13-step guide on getting the most out of meeting with politicians.
  2. Stay up-to-date. Keep in touch with the latest ANTaR campaigns by signing up to our e-newsletter or by donating to support our advocacy work.
  3. Support politicians who don't support racism. You can also support the Senators Against Racism campaign by Foundation for Aboriginal and Islander Research Action (FAIRA). FAIRA is seeking your support to ensure that Australia maintains guaranteed protection against racial discrimination.
