Expert Panel announcement an important step on the road to Reconciliation

ANTaR has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement of an expert panel to help progress the Constitutional recognition of Australia’s First Peoples. ANTaR’s National President, Dr Peter Lewis, said the extensive experience and broad range of views amongst the Panel’s membership will significantly enhance the prospect of a successful outcome.
Seize opportunity of new decade to advance reconciliation

ANTaR will launch a Reconciliation Progress Report on Friday, assessing progress in the ten years since the December 2000 Final Report of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation (‘the Council’).
The report, Are We There Yet?, will be officially launched by Indigenous statesman Patrick Dodson and calls on governments to advance their commitment to ‘resetting’ the relationship with Indigenous Australians by developing a clear reconciliation agenda.

Launching A Better Way: Success stories in Aboriginal community-control in the Northern Territory in Darwin today, ANTaR calls on governments to empower Aboriginal organisations and communities to drive solutions to the challenges they face.
“It is time for governments to engage directly with Aboriginal communities to develop a long-term community development strategy for the Northern Territory. The strategy should strengthen community governance and capacity and 'put communities in the driving seat',” said Jacqueline Phillips, ANTaR National Director.
