Speak up in public

It can be difficult to speak up against racism in public because you may not know how the person or group will react to your comment.

  • Step up. Don't allow someone to be mistreated when you have the power to help. Speak up when you witness racism where-ever you go. MAKE SURE YOU ARE SAFE.

  • Non-verbal response. Make your feelings known by frowning or other non-verbal communication.

  • State your concern clearly.

"I find your comments offensive. You are basing your opinion on stereotypes, not facts."

  • Speak to the manager. If the incident happens in a store or restaurant, let the manager know what your concerns are or what behaviour offended you.

ANTaR would like to thank http://www.tolerance.org/ for the ideas and materials they provide on their website, which has helped us compile the resources on this page.
