Education resource kit

The ANTaR NSW education resource kit (Doc 99k) is designed to assist classroom teachers in their teaching about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia. It provides some suggested guidelines followed by information about educational resources.

ANTaR stocks a variety of books and DVDs as well as maps of Aboriginal Australia that may assist in the teaching of Indigenous studies.

Please contact us if you would like to discuss these resources.

Welcome to Country

A Welcome to Country is usually performed by a senior representative of the local Aboriginal community. Steps should be taken to ensure that an appropriate Aboriginal representative is invited to undertake the Welcome to Country and that the representative involved is involved in, and comfortable with, the arrangements.

Acknowledgement of Country

An Acknowledgement of Country is a way that all people can show respect to the traditional owners and custodians of the lands and waters. The Chair or speaker at the event should ackowledge that the meeting/event is taking place on the traditional owners land. Where the name of the traditional owners and custodians is known it is specifically used. Local Aboriginal organisations such as the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), the NSW Aboriginal Land Council, and ANTaR NSW can provide advice on who are the traditional custodians and owners of the specific lands.
