It is time to make Indigenous Poverty History - say YES!
Over 90% of Australians voted YES in the 1967 Referendum to give the Commonwealth Government the power to make laws for (the benefit of) Aboriginal people and for Indigenous people to be counted in the census.
Forty years later, there is a 17-year GAP between the life expectancies of Indigenous and non-Indigenous babies. Aboriginal Australians also have the highest rate of preventable diseases and Indigenous infant mortality rates are three times that of other Australian infants.
With a concerted national effort we can end Australia's Indigenous health crisis.
We need to:
- Recognise what is happening now
- Respond to the situation
- Reconsider the present in light of the past
