Be supportive

The third step in building respect between Indigenous and other Australians is supporting Indigenous Australians in their fight for justice, rights and social equity. By doing this, you become part of the solution rather than standing on the sidelines.

Support Indigenous business by buying their products and services

  • ANTaR’s The Rights Stuff merchandise program is Australia’s only NGO-produced catalogue dedicated to promoting and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander enterprises.
  • Check whether businesses that you use have done an internal Reconciliation Action Plan, turning their good intentions into actions.

Join ANTaR in your State or Territory

  • ANTaR is the only non-Indigenous national advocacy organisation dedicated specifically to the rights - and overcoming the disadvantage - of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Join your local ANTaR, who can hook you up with like-minded people in your area and send you information about local actions and events. Once you are part of the movement, you are also part of the solution rather than part of the problem. Find out about what it means to be a member of ANTaR.

Support campaigns that support Indigenous Australians

  • Close The Gap is a national coalition-lead campaign aiming to close the 17-year life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians
  • Sea of Hands began as the people’s movement for reconciliation in 1997. It started as a public art display of hands, however it has since moved online.
  • Save The Kimberley
  • Stand Up for the Burrup
  • Stolen Generations Alliance and National Sorry Day Committee

What have you done to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people?

In support of Indigenous people everywhere....

In support of Indigenous people every where.......I lend my strength and project my faith to all thoughts, all words and all actions that see the wisdom in the darkness between the stars....that hear the stories of the unspoken for......and that make room for those who go beyond collecting bright shiny things and are oppressed by social marginalisation. YES!!!

Intro to a textbook Walkabout Dreaming for non-indigenous studen

Anonymous — 15 October 2009

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The original custodians of the lands where I have left my footprints, from Wyndham to Hobart, from Port Douglas to Albany. The elders and other indigenous people who generously gave of their time, talents and resources. In particular I would like to thank Margaret Wirrpunda and Anne Jenkins, as well as Helen Curzon-Siggers whose love of her people inspired me to begin this journey of discovery. These people came from many lands. I grew up in Bunerong country (though some see this as Wurundjeri land) at Boorandakandarra (Black Rock) and wrote this project on Wurundjeri land. I have stayed on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara lands and have met people from the Wathaurong and Yorta Yorta countries. To all of you, I say “sorry”. Michael P.
